18+ years
A new group for parents and carers of individuals with Down’s Syndrome aged 18+, or approaching this stage. Many members join from age 16+, as it provides a supportive space to share experiences, ask questions, and navigate the transition into adulthood and life beyond education.
The group also supports all adult members and their carers for life.
Discussions are active and cover a wide range of topics, including:
- The law – Power of Attorney and Deputyship (Court of Protection)
- Finance – benefits, bank accounts, trusts
- Housing – supported living
- Further education – sixth form, college, and residential college
- Speech therapy
- Workplace support
- Personal assistants (PAs) and support workers
- Daytime activities for adults
- 18+ social events
- Other useful groups and resources
We are planning to create an online library of the information we gather. In the meantime, please feel free to ask questions within the group.
If any DSO parent or carer would like to join our friendly WhatsApp group, please contact Elsa Gill.
Our events are publicised on the DSO Members Facebook Group and via our closed WhatsApp groups.
