Oliver! Theatre Arts Workshop – March 2010

The Primary Club participated in a theatre arts workshop based around the Musical ‘Oliver’ led by Beth and Sarah from the Expression School of Ballet and Theatre Arts.

The workshop started with some warm up games before the children learned a dance routine to the song ‘Gotta Pick a Pocket or Two’ from the musical.  The children learned the complicated routine with minimum supervision from their parents who were in an adjoining room with younger siblings. They showed great concentration throughout the hour and a half workshop before performing their fantastic routine to great applause from the parents.  The workshop was followed by a shared lunch.

Review by Ellie Walpole
“Back in March Elsa found a terrific girl, Beth, to give a performance workshop based around the music from 'Oliver'. When Elsa told me that Beth wanted to run the workshop with minimum assistance from parents or without any parents at all I was very impressed and wondered how on earth she would manage for an hour without my son (Thomas) running away at the first opportunity and I was proved completely wrong.

.... Beth was completely engaging and had a big group of 4-9 year olds watching and copying her moves with excitement and anticipation.  I'm not the best person to write this since typically as soon as I walked in the room my Thomas stopped but apparently he had been very involved until that point!  What I saw at the end was a few of the girls and boys joining in with a rendition of 'pick-a-pocket' with actions and words presenting themselves confidently to an audience of appreciative parents.  Roll on 'Over the Rainbow' workshop please!”
